About our Board Positions

To be eligible to serve on the Board, your membership must be in good standing and your dues paid. All board positions are for a one-year term. To be considered for the role of President, you must have served on the board at least once within the last five years.

And, if you're curious what each role entails, here's the basics:

Technical Director

The Technical Director manages all the club’s technology needs, encompassing website and email administration, data storage, file sharing and various apps. The Director troubleshoots issues and provides training and support as needed. Good candidates are solutions-oriented and proactive.

MarCom Director

The MarCom Director manages the club’s marketing and communications to ensure brand and message quality and consistency across all platforms. This includes email campaigns, newsletters, social media platforms, print materials, advertising, and merchandising. MarCom works closely with the Tech Director to manage the website and may designate committee members to lead other key functions, such as social media and graphic design. Good candidates are creative, good communicators, and get $hit done.

Social Director

The Social Director plans, promotes, and executes a variety of social activities throughout the year, including annual events such as the installation banquet, Pray for Snow party, and holiday party. In addition to coordinating logistics, the Social Director also manages event budgets and collaborates with the Membership Director, MarCom, and fundraising as needed. Good candidates have lots of energy and great ideas and are resourceful and thorough.

Trip Director

The Trip Director plans, promotes, and executes ski trips to Mammoth. This means running point on all trip logistics, including schedule, room assignments, enlisting guest chefs, and troubleshooting guest issues. The Director must also negotiate contract terms, prepare budgets, and maintain all trip-related supplies. The Trip Director may also coordinate – or with Board approval, designate another volunteer to coordinate – an extended ski trip to an alternative destination. Good candidates communicate clearly, are patient and diplomatic, and above all, organized.

Membership Director

The Membership Director maintains up-to-date records of all categories of Wailers members, applicants, and guests, from managing annual membership renewals to maintaining the contacts databases and coordinating pinning ceremonies. The Director is our ambassador for all prospects and applicants, proactively looking for ways to improve the membership experience. Good candidates are outgoing and enthusiastic with good follow-through.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is the custodian of all club funds and keeps detailed accounts of income and expenses in accordance with all statutory requirements. Basic responsibilities include providing monthly reports to the Board, coordinating with the bank, reconciling member credits, and working with the CPA on tax returns. The Treasurer also processes renewals of permits, licenses, and policies. Good candidates are detail-oriented, straightforward, and sensible.

Secretary

The Secretary is the official record-keeper for the club on all matters of the Board and the membership. Basic responsibilities include preparing and retaining copies of minutes for all Board of Director meetings, coordinating storage of all official documents as required by prevailing law, and assisting other Board members in preparing formal letters or statements. The Secretary also maintains the most current version of the club’s bylaws. Good candidates are responsive, succinct, and organized.

Vice President

The VP is the liaison to the L.A. Council, which involves attending virtual meetings on a quarterly basis, providing content as needed, and coordinating participation in the annual FWSA convention. The VP supports the Treasurer with various filings as needed and is the primary contact to the liability insurance broker. The VP coordinates all annual members awards that are given out at the installation banquet. The VP also fills in when the President is absent or otherwise disabled. Good candidates are passionate, thoughtful, and cooperative.

President

The President is the chief executive director of the club and exercises general oversight of its affairs and officers. The President is the club’s principal spokesperson and presides over general membership meetings, as well as all meetings of the Board of Directors. The President has the authority to establish committees and define their responsibilities. The President leads the Board in goal-setting and adopting fiscally responsible and ethical practices so that the club remains healthy and fun for years to come! Good candidates are confident, resourceful, diplomatic and, most importantly, passionate about the Wailers!
